For the kids
This is kind of related to the UNDO show...I also submitted this piece I made for my niece and nephew. This is their Christmas present, so I felt bad that I had to say it's not for sale when a lot of people came to me and asked the price. The original is done in ink on tracing paper with two layers. The background is actually done in the same ink pen, but because of the opacity of the tracing paper it looks low contrast than the foreground. Also the dimension of this piece is 4x10. This digital scan is enhanced with some color gradients.

UNDO show photos...
Here are some of my favorites from the UNDO art show... I couldn't take all the art, and some photos didn't turn out that great because of light glare on the piece etc. I'm only posting photos that came out pretty.
gorilla maze that can be done then undone. (by Dare Matheson)
conceptual installation depicting things can be done in a day (detail)
(by Matt Durso)

CTRL+Z
Yesterday was UNDO show opening. (Thank you so much for those who came!) I submitted few pieces. One of them is the video posted above. Those of you who came to the show, here's the version with sweet soundtrack made by M-Cue!
The whole Art Department at Harmonix went out to have dinner together, and after that we enjoyed each other's art at the gallery. It was nice to see coworkers' personal art style :)

Friday Fun
Err...I had one of those waiting-for-director's feedback kind of day today and made mr. birdman bouncing in sort of sticky way. Exploring Photoshop animation feature a bit.
After graduation, I could have chosen to go back and settle in Japan, choosing animation career instead of staying in New England to go for video game art. Sometimes I wonder what would've happened if I took Mr. Satoshi Kon's personal advise more seriously...

fluffy furry mossy man chilling in a water (cat eared)
I've been working on this during breaks at work...Finally we have CS5 here at hmx, and I'm loving the canvas rotation feature! After getting some advises from an experienced concept artist I thought I should start focusing on making a complete piece rather then puking out a bunch of sketches in short time period. Honestly it's really hard for me to know when to stop or develop more during painting process, so there's a lot to learn. Also...my mind is fixed in certain way lately, due to working on a specific kind of game. It's time to relax and let my own taste flourish. Sloooowww dooowwwnnnn...

dark and stormy
Yesterday my fiance and I were stuck in his apartment because of the storm. After been waken up by the call from my mom around 6 am (she was freaking out hearing the storm is hitting New England) we spend whole day pretty much watching Naoki Urasawa's Monster all day. Oh, we watched Tangled too. It was cute. Then I decided to take over Noah's (my fiance) Photoshop for a while, customizing all brush presets and shortcuts etc and painted the one above. I wonder how many painters did live stream on that day just because they had nothing else to do...

meowzers
It's been a while since I started working on this one... I decided to come back to this and work a bit more this weekend. Note to myself; start with flat tip brush, always, always...or I'll lose sharp lighting pass. I'm struggling to find good face simplification method without falling into Disney or anime look...

New stuff.
It's been a while...I've been busy with multiple of projects (including my wedding planning...meowww). Most of them are Harmonix related that I can't talk about them yet, but here's one that I can. I've been working with this amazing Boston based rock band Anarchy Club, and now they are releasing new single called YIN AGAINST YANG. If you like hard rock music...just go get it. You'll fall in love with this band instantly like I did.
My fiancé and I have been brainstorming about our wedding, and we've been talking about setting game arcades on the site. Can you imagine? SSF4 for reception! Whatever we will do, I'm sure it will be very appropriately nerdy.

Hakumen
expanded the composition, started painting...imagining this to be in color eventually. I love his face design. The original comic tells why he is always looking up. Since he is the strongest and most evil of all demons, he should be looking down on everyone, right?
now I gotta get ready for work. thurrrsdayyyy tomorrow is frrrriiidayyyyyyy (fun fun fun fun fun...)

Rise Again-the eastern sun WIP
adjusted colors etc... calling it done.
This is for a fundraising event for helping victims of the earth quake and tsunami in Japan.
My friend asked if I can participate, so I did this phoenix painting under the theme requirement "rise again." I have to admit phoenix is kind of easy solution, but I like painting birds, and I wanted to explore how to express fire, so...
I learned a lot about brush and adjustment layer in this project. Also thanks to Devon and Eliot for giving me the awesome art pen for Cintiq!
